Hand made spider brooch case study

I asked Karina what was the most unusual item she has made.

"This piece was made for my hairdresser's pregnant wife. She absolutely loves spiders and anything to do with them. Initially the brooch was designed to be set with a black pearl in the spider's body, until we discovered the lady was superstitious about pearls. We easily changed the design so that we used diamonds instead – 235 in total, each one placed by hand.

"[Pieces like these] are hand crafted, although more intricate designs require the metal to be cast. By using a combination of these methods I can make virtually anything into a brooch."
